Drosophila Species Drosophila hydei

Summary

Drosophila hydei is a member of the repleta species group (hydei subgroup) within the Drosophila subgenus.

This species is a cosmopolitan and urban species. In Australia it has been recorded between Lake Eacham (Queensland) and Fairfield (Victoria) along the East coast.

Drosophila hydei has emerged as a model species to address evolutionary questions such as those related to sexual selection and endosymbiont research.

The genome of this species is in the process of being sequenced as part of the "Adaptation to climate change research project", which is funded by a Science & Industry Endowment Fund (SIEF) Research grant.
